Joe Chen

Joe Chen is a seasoned cybersecurity executive with over 25 years in engineering and operations, contributing to some of the industry’s top cybersecurity companies. Known as a strategic builder and force multiplier, Joe prioritizes strong, agile teams to accelerate product development and drive impactful innovation. Before joining Crosspoint Capital Partners, Joe served as Vice President of Engineering at Symantec, Broadcom, and Carbon Black, where he led global teams and directed advanced machine learning projects focused on threat detection, network security, and endpoint protection.

In addition to his engineering leadership, Joe played key roles in Symantec’s technical due diligence team for multiple acquisitions. Following Broadcom’s $10.9 billion acquisition of Symantec’s enterprise security division, Joe led essential engineering integrations to streamline technology and operations. He also directed all engineering integration efforts for Broadcom’s acquisition of Carbon Black as part of its $63 billion acquisition of VMware.

As one of Cyber Threat Alliance’s founding members, Joe has been intimately involved since before its incorporation in 2017. He has served on the Board of Directors, Steering Committee, authored blogs, and served as a panelist for various industry events. Joe is committed to supporting global standards in cybersecurity collaboration. 

Throughout his career, Joe has been awarded more than 55 U.S. patents, reflecting his contributions to the security industry. His innovations underscore a commitment to empowering defenders and outpacing evolving threats. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science & Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles.
